I'm a wee bit behind on my posts . . .

but I have a good reason! I just got back from 12 days in Europe! What a great time! I love to travel and will share some of our adventures from the other side of the world. We were able to travel to Berlin, Germany; Edinburgh, Scotland; Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, and York, England.

Day 1:
Jeremy and I left on Wednesday, June 4th. We flew out at 10 AM and I was not feeling well. I must have had some kind of stomach flew or something, because I actually threw up on the plane (luckily in the bathroom and not in one of those barf bags that I always hoped I would never have to use). Not that the bathroom was much better, but at least people didn't have to see or hear. It is awful to be sick on an airplane, especially for a long flight. But, I survived, and we arrived into Berlin, Germany about 10 AM on July 5th, Thursday. Jeremy saw a sign for First Aid, so we went to see what kind of help we could get. The man who helped me was very nice, spoke a little English, enough to find out that my stomach was upset. He had me swallow what must have been similiar to pepto bismol and sent me on my way saying that if I didn't get better I needed to go to the hospital, since this is only first aid!! He repeated that a few times, to make sure I understood. So, on our way we went to find our hotel. We just used the trains and buses and found our way pretty easily to the Adrema Hotel. Where, soon after checking into our room, we both fell asleep for about 5 hours. I was so wasted, and needed the sleep. I woke up feeling better, so we wandered around the neighborhood by our hotel to see what we could find. We bought me some more medicine, water, sprite, crackers and ate a little bit of food. That night, we got to hang out with Mattias, Jeremy's good friend. Mattias is from Germany, but Jeremy met him in Idaho during high school. They have stayed in touch all these years, and he happened to be in Berlin that weekend, so I got to meet him for the first time! He is an awesome guy and I'm so glad we could hang out together for a few days.

Day 2:
We had a hard time adjusting the first couple of days, we wanted to stay up late, and sleep in. The following day, I was feeling better, but still taking it easy on the food, everything sounded so bad to me, especially being in a foreign country, the smells from all the food stands where almost more than I could handle. We found the closest train stop and headed to Alexanderplatz. It was a cool section of town with a tall TV tower, a fountain and St. Mary's Chuch. We walked around that area for a while and snapped a few photos. Then we hopped back on the train and headed to Brandenburg Gate, which was very cool, it is the only surviving city gate out of 18. We walked from that towards the River Spree and saw some of the government buildings. Back towards the gate, we were able to see the Holocaust Memorial, which was very sombering. It took up a whole block, and was surrounded by apartment buildings and stores, it just made you stop and take it all in, very appropriate. We met up with Mattias again in the part of the city he was staying and had some Italian for dinner (pizza actually) by the river and walked along the river for a bit, it was good to see a different part of town. Berlin is so huge and has different neighborhoods, each one with different things to see and a different feel to it. The weather there was pretty nice, it got warn during the day, but the evenings cooled off alot.

How exciting! I think Germany is very beautiful in an old world, serene sort of way! Can't wait to hear about Scotland and England.
